New limits on social gatherings start tomorrow in Ontario’s Covid-19 hotspots.
Today Premier Doug Ford announced rules limiting organised public events and social gatherings.
Indoor gatherings now have a limit of up to 10 people and outdoor gatherings to 25 people in Toronto, Ottawa and Peel Region.
“And we can’t afford to let a few rule-breakers reverse all the hard work and progress the people of Ontario have made over the past six months,” said Ford.
The new guidelines don’t cover places like movie theatres, restaurants, banquets halls, gyms or conventions centres.
People living in the hotspots must also keep a distance of two metres with those outside their social circles.
Ford says if you don’t follow the new rules a stiff minimum fine of $10,000 will apply to organizers of illegal social gatherings – that’s in addition to a $750 fine for individuals who attend such gatherings.
To help stop the spread of COVID-19, our government set a new limit on the number of people permitted to attend unmonitored social gatherings in three regions: Ottawa, Peel and Toronto. This takes effect September 18.https://t.co/sXWbkvcmor pic.twitter.com/AYqP73Dapc
