Bruce Power supplier partners marked World Hospice and Palliative Care Day (WHPCD) on Oct. 10 with $75,000 in donations to Huron Shores Hospice.
“Access to quality health care and strong community supports are essential to building healthy, vibrant communities,” says Bruce Power’s Director of Community and External Affairs Maggie Tieman. “Through the support of our supplier partners, we’re proud to invest in local hospices that provide comfort, dignity and compassionate care for individuals and families during some of life’s most challenging moments.”
World Hospice and Palliative Care Day is observed annually on the second Saturday in October to raise awareness and advocate for improved access to services for individuals with life-limiting illnesses. It is also a day to show support for quality of life, hospice and palliative care around the world.
“World Hospice and Palliative Care Day is an opportunity to celebrate the profound difference hospice palliative care makes in the lives of patients and families,” says Executive Director of Huron Shores Hospice Cathy Herbert. “We are deeply grateful to Bruce Power Supplier Partners for their long-standing support of our hospice. Their commitment helps ensure compassionate, quality hospice palliative care remains available close to home for individuals and families in our community. Together, we are making moments matter.”
The day has been marked every year for the last 21 years. People around the world observe it each October to advocate for better hospice and palliative care services. This year’s theme was “Pain Management: An Essential Part of Palliative Care,” chosen to re-emphasize the holistic treatment of pain – including physical, psychological, social and spiritual aspects. The interaction among total pain components is often complex, yet evident in patients with serious illnesses.
