Kincardine council is calling on the provincial government to taking action to make Highway 21 safer for everyone.
The call especially highlights safety precautions for the stretch of road that passes Kincardine Township-Tiverton Public School.
Council has previously advocated for safety improvements along Highway 21 over the years, and has done traffic study reviews and had ongoing discussions with the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario.
At Wednesday’s meeting, council passed a motion to formally request that the Province reconsider its previous decisions regarding safety improvements along Highway 21.
The motion requests that there be an immediate speed reduction for the stretch of highway from Bruce Avenue and the North Line to improve safety for motorists and families in the area.
It also asks for accelerated construction to add a northbound turning lane at KTTPS as a standalone safety improvement, instead of waiting for the MTO’s regular 10-to-15-year scheduled rehabilitation cycle.
