Bruce County will host various events over the next two weeks to honour the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
The Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre will offer free admission on Sept. 30, with opportunities to view the Witness Blanket exhibit or explore the interactive Biinaagami Water Map between 1 and 5 p.m.
On Sept. 28 at 6:30 p.m., join award-winning children’s author Melanie Florence for a thoughtful and practical workshop designed to help parents, grandparents, caregivers and educators approach conversations about Truth and Reconciliation with children.
Florence, a Canadian author of Cree descent, received the 2016 TD Canadian Children’s Literature Award for her book Missing Nimâmâ, and won the Ruth and Sylvia Schwartz Children’s Book Award in 2018 for Stolen Words.
Florence will also visit the Walkerton Library on Sept. 29 at 1 p.m. and the Kincardine Library at 6 p.m.
Additionally, the Walk for Wenjack – an annual initiative of the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund that brings Indigenous and non-Indigenous people together through education, awareness and action – will hold walks across Bruce County on the following dates:
– Sept. 27, at 1 p.m.: Kincardine, Station Beach
– Sept. 30, at 6 p.m.: Walkerton, Riverbend Park
– Oct. 19, at 1 p.m.: Southampton, Fairy Lake Pavillion
– Oct. 21, at 1 p.m.: Southampton, Saugeen First Nation Amphitheatre
