The Salvation Army Wiarton Community Church, in partnership with Empty Bowls Peninsula, hosted the third annual Empty Bowls Peninsula fundraiser on Sept. 21, raising more than $10,700 for the Bruce Peninsula Community Food Bank.
“This year’s Empty Bowls Peninsula was truly something special,” says Corps Officer at The Salvation Army Wiarton Community Church Major Mark Crabb. “To see the room filled with people who came out to enjoy a wonderful evening while supporting neighbours in their community was incredibly encouraging. The generosity and enthusiasm shown throughout the evening made it clear just how much this community cares.”
Guests enjoyed soup from five local restaurants, with The Dunes Restaurant and Bar in Sauble Beach taking home the People’s Choice Award for Best Soup. Their winning dish was a late summer roasted tomato and fennel soup with a sourdough and Gruyère grilled cheese.
More than seven local potters contributed handcrafted bowls for guests to choose from, while local businesses provided financial support to help make the event possible.
Funds raised through Empty Bowls Peninsula will support the Bruce Peninsula Community Food Bank, managed by The Salvation Army Wiarton, helping provide food assistance to individuals and families throughout the community. The food bank serves an average of 116 households and 221 individuals each month through food hampers, emergency assistance and delivery services.
