The Bayshore parking lot got a workout yesterday.
The AORS (Association of Road Supervisors) Provincial Safety Truck Roadeo was at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre, with 21 other municipalities in attendance.
“It’s nice to welcome everybody from the province to our little heaven here in Grey County in Owen Sound” says Representative for the Grey County Public Works Association and Public Works Foreman and Fleet Manager for Southgate Paul Stevenson.
Seth Martin from the Municipality of Grey Highlands won the John Gloor Memorial Trophy for Driver of the Year, getting 374 out of a possible 390 points.
The Roadeo is a obstacle course that makes each snowplow driver simulate what they experience on the job like backing up in tight areas, making sharp turns and stopping.
“Through the obstacle course every driver starts with a perfect score,” says Stevenson. “If there’s little foul ups like bump into cone or something like that we will start deducting points for it.”
Marc Groulx from City of Ottawa came in second place and Jeff Nielsen from Municipality of Trent Hills in third.
The last time Grey-Bruce hosted the event was 2018.
