The nomination deadline for this year’s municipal elections has passed, and a few Grey Bruce municipalities will have mayors and deputy mayors acclaimed to public office without votes.
West Grey, Georgian Bluffs and Brockton each had one mayoral candidate respectively ahead of Friday’s 2 p.m. filing deadline, unofficial online candidate lists show.
All three municipalities will have incumbents returning: West Grey Mayor Kevin Eccles, Georgian Bluffs Mayor Sue Carleton and Brockton Mayor Chris Peabody.
A deadline day filer in Southgate prevented incumbent mayor Brian Milne from retaining his position by acclamation. Two-term councillor and local farmer Jason Rice has entered the mayoral race in Southgate.
Several municipalities in Bruce and Grey counties also had uncontested deputy mayor candidates.
Incumbents Owen Sound Deputy Mayor Scott Greig, Southgate Deputy Mayor Barbara Dobreen, Georgian Bluffs Deputy Mayor Grant Pringle, Arran-Elderslie Deputy Mayor Jennifer Shaw and Huron-Kinloss Deputy Mayor James Hanna will be granted their next four-year terms by acclamation.
Meaford and Kincardine also have uncontested candidates for deputy mayor. Robert Uhrig, a current councillor in Meaford, and Rory Cavanagh, a councillor in Kincardine, will obtain the deputy mayor jobs in their respective municipalities by acclamation.
The 2026 municipal and school board elections will be held on Monday, Oct. 26.
