Gran Fondo Lake Huron went without a hitch yesterday as it was a record-breaking day, raising $516,000 in support of local healthcare.
The field was filled with 820 riders from Bruce and Grey counties, around the province and even abroad.
“To see 820 riders come together for healthcare in our communities is incredible,” says Tracy Murray, executive director of the Saugeen Shores Hospital Foundation. “Some travelled thousands of kilometres to be here. Others live just down the road. But on Saturday, they were all riding for the same reason: to make a difference for patients and families across our region.”
Gran Fondo Lake Huron is the annual cycling fundraiser for the Saugeen Shores Hospital Foundation, bringing riders, volunteers, families and supporters together to advance healthcare in the area. The event features a route of varying difficultly, with distances beginning at 10 km and extending up to 110 km.
Gran Fondo Lake Huron was presented by Bruce Power and suppliers this year, a pivotal partnership for the event.
“The commitment of Bruce Power, the nuclear supplier community and all of our sponsors is remarkable,” says Murray. “Year after year, they do so much more than sponsor this event. They build teams, rally their employees, fundraise alongside us and make a significant investment in the healthcare available to the people who live and work in this region. We simply could not achieve what we do through Gran Fondo without them.”
