Grey Bruce Public Health is announcing Kincardine Mayor Kenneth Craig as its new Chair for the Board of Health.
Shirley Keaveney was acclaimed as the Vice-Chair for the Board.
The Board of Health selected the two during a special meeting on Friday at Grey Bruce Public Health.
They’ll remain in those positions until the end of 2026.
The board meeting took place after Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Kieran Moor, rescinded a directive under the Health Protection Act, which formally returns the decision-making authority back to Grey Bruce Public Health.
The Chief Medical Officer of Health temporarily assumed the powers of the Grey-Bruce Board of Health, utilizing the section 77.1 order, in August 2025 to ensure essential public health services continued, while concerns about the Board’s ability to govern were addressed.
In a statement released by the Special Advisors to the region, over the past year, Grey and Bruce Counties have worked alongside Grey Bruce Public Health and the Chief Medical Officer of Health to ensure strong local leadership.
Moore said in that statement that with a renewed board now in place and the ongoing supports available, “I am confident Grey Bruce Public Health is well positioned to meet current and future public health needs and continue delivering high-quality public health services.”
Both Grey County Warden Andrea Matrosovs and Bruce County Warden Luke Charbonneau both shared their support of the new board of health appointments.
