Victoria Park could get a fresh new look.
Sutton Group and Matt Webb — with the support of the City of Owen Sound, the Agricultural Society of Grey-Bruce and the YMCA — are hosting Fixin’ Funland at the Kiwanis Sk8 & Bike Park on Saturday, June 27, from 12 to 6 p.m.
This family-friendly event is free to attend. The goal is to raise funds through donations to fix the bleachers at Victoria Park and to support Pizza to the People, an initiative that has fed more than 6,000 people since September.
“It’s important that the community knows that they can [actually] make a difference,” says event organizer Matt Webb. “And the town needs it. Everybody knows that Owen Sound needs a hand up and this is something very simple we can do to have some fun.”
Webb says there will be a check-in centre at the event to accept donations for either cause.
Along with Grey County Skates, Bikeface and Freshslice Pizza, the event will feature skateboard and BMX competitions all afternoon, with plenty of free giveaways and prizes for all ages.
Kids’ activities running throughout the day will include face painting and a glass-blowing exhibition. Webb says a bouncy castle is also in the works.
Live music will run through the afternoon, featuring DJs and an outdoor dance floor.
Organizers are also looking for graffiti and other artists to help beautify the park using paint donated by the Art Society of Grey Bruce Owen Sound.
“Any artist that wanna come out and choose a section of the park, the city has given me permission to help beautify the park,” says Webb. “And the Agricultural Society of Grey-Bruce have indicated they just want it to look better.”
