A fundraising radiothon held Friday raised tens of thousands of dollars for the Bruce Peninsula Hospitals Foundation.
As of about 6 p.m. Friday, the Checkerboard Challenge raised roughly $79,000 thanks to generous donations from the community.
It was held in Wiarton and Lion’s Head supported by Bayshore Broadcasting’s 89.3 CFOS FM and 97.9 The Bruce with 97.9 The Bruce morning show hosts Longy and Bruffer in Lion’s Head, while 89.3 CFOS FM’s Paul Hill and Robin Woods were in Wiarton.
The radiothon showcased Bruce Peninsula community spirit, local interviews, prizes, great music and lots of laughs.
The foundation for Brightshores Health System’s Lion’s Head and Wiarton hospitals raised money to buy equipment for the hospitals. The foundation says, “Much of the equipment needs to be replaced about every seven years. Across the six hospitals, Brightshores Health System requires approximately $6-10 million annually to keep its facilities and equipment up to date.”
