Northern Bruce Peninsula council passed a one-time waiver for bed and breakfast licensing fees for all applications received in 2026.
Back in January, council passed a bylaw to manage bed and breakfasts for the municipality, including the $500 licensing fee.
The municipality received a letter from local B&B owners requesting a waiver of inspection fees and some flexibility regarding the application process for the first year.
The motion that was passed waives the $500 licensing fee. However, it will not waive the $500 inspection fee, as that fee is intended to recover the costs associated with staff time and resources required to conduct the inspection, which involves both municipal by-law enforcement and fire department staff.
The licensing fee will be reinstated Jan. 1, 2027.
