U19 Shute Optometry Girls Field Lacrosse Wins Pair
Game 1: North Stars 8 Halton Hills 7
The North Stars got off to a very slow start against Halton Hills, finding themselves trailing 5-2 at halftime. Rather than letting the deficit define the game, the team responded with an outstanding second-half performance.
The Stars exploded offensively, outscoring Halton Hills 6-2 over the final two quarters to complete an impressive comeback victory. Strong shutdown defence from Lauren Neil, Grace Smyth and Eva Sword helped limit scoring opportunities and gave the offense the chance to claw back into the game.
Offensively, the scoring was spread throughout the lineup, with Avery Thompson leading the way with two goals. Single markers were added by Ryann Seaman, Ella McCoubrey, Willow Smith Spinney, Hannah Davies, Ava Ward, and McKenna Ward as the Stars secured the 8-7 win.
Game 2: North Stars 11 Kawartha 7
The North Stars wasted no time getting started in their second game of the day, jumping out to a commanding 4-0 first-quarter lead against Kawartha. Hannah Davies found the back of the net, while McKenna Ward scored three times in the opening frame to give the Stars early momentum.
Kawartha battled hard and worked their way back into the game, but the North Stars’ relentless offensive pressure proved too much to overcome. The Stars continued to generate scoring chances throughout the contest and eventually pulled away for an 11-7 victory.
Leading the offense were Ryann Seaman with three goals and Avery Thompson with two. Additional goals came from Willow Smith Spinney and Ally Scott, while contributions throughout the lineup helped keep the pressure on Kawartha all game long.
One of the game’s biggest moments came in the final three minutes when Cali Hill secured two crucial ground balls, helping the North Stars maintain possession and preventing Kawartha from building any late-game momentum.
U13 Owen Sound Firefighters Girls Field Lacrosse Team Splits Pair In Halton Hills
The team had a slow first quarter start against Orillia. After a quick time out and a regroup, the girls rallied back to close the gap with a allowing a 1 goal lead. It was a complete team effort on the defensive side of the ball. The girls stayed strong to hold on but came up a bit short with a 8-5 loss.
In the 2nd game against Newmarket, everything came together.
The team once again put in a strong defensive performance, and when opportunities arose, the girls asserted themselves offensively and capitalized on their chances. The attack applied consistent pressure, while the midfield continued to be a strong presence across the field.
The girls stayed strong with outstanding goaltending not allowing any goals for 2 quarters. The team secured a 5-2 win.
The team heads to Oshawa on June 21st.
U9 Nicol North Stars Win Two
It was another dndefeated weekend for the U9 Matt Brown Nicol Insurance NorthStars!
They were at Beavermead Park in Peterborough this past weekend.
The day started bright and early with a commanding 14-1 victory over the Orillia Lady Kings. The offense was firing on all cylinders with goals spread throughout the lineup, while a strong defensive effort limited Orillia’s chances all game long.
The momentum carried into game two as the NorthStars faced Kawartha Lacrosse. After a competitive opening quarter, Owen Sound exploded offensively, pulling away for an impressive 24-6 win.
Despite the wet weather, the NorthStars brought the sunshine with another weekend of exciting lacrosse, strong passing, and outstanding effort across the field. Special recognition goes to our goalies, who stood tall when called upon and helped anchor another undefeated day between the pipes.
