Meaford council has approved the reconstruction of St. Vincent Street from the Meaford Harbour to Marshall Street East.
During council’s meeting Monday, the contract was awarded to Tatham Engineering Limited for $371,424.
The project includes replacing the existing watermain and sanitary sewer, as well as reconstructing the road.
Replacing 377 metres of watermain and sanitary sewer is required to deal with failing, end-of-life and undersized infrastructure.
Additional water and sanitary sewer work in the harbour will be reviewed during the design process to determine the feasibility of an additional bulk water station and sewer dumping station.
According to a staff report, the project is a priority due to several watermain breaks in recent years, including multiple breaks in 2025.
The Water and Wastewater Master Plan identified sections of the watermain in this area as a priority because they were installed between 1905 and 1936 and no longer meet provincial guidelines.
A detailed design will be completed this year, with construction scheduled for 2027.
