Water bills in Owen Sound will be increasing by just over three per cent this summer.
Council approved an operations committee recommendation during its meeting Monday to increase water rates by five per cent, while decreasing the wastewater surcharge. It will decline from 124 per cent to 120 per cent.
The end result is a combined increase for Owen Sound water system users of just over three per cent, which will come into effect for the city’s July billing cycle.
Owen Sound’s Director of Corporate Services Kate Allan says the hike will cost the typical residential water user — which uses about 200 cubic metres of water per year — about another $52 annually.
