The Grey Sauble Conservation Authority has upgraded to a Flood Watch Statement for all municipalities within its watershed after significant rainfall over the past several days.
Officials report that between 75 and 120 millimetres of rain has fallen over the past 72 hours, including 20 to 25 millimetres in just the last six hours. Additional rainfall is forecast through Wednesday and Thursday, raising concerns about further increases in water levels.
River systems across the region are rising, with many expected to exceed normal spring runoff levels. While levels are not anticipated to reach earlier seasonal peaks, parts of the Sauble and Sydenham River systems may approach or surpass previous highs.
Localized flooding is already being reported in low-lying areas, with road closures occurring in Georgian Bluffs and South Bruce Peninsula. Elevated water levels are also being observed in areas such as Gould Lake, Hepworth Creek, and Parkhead Creek.
The conservation authority warns that conditions near rivers and streams remain hazardous, with fast-moving water, slippery banks, and unstable ground posing serious risks. Residents in flood-prone areas are encouraged to monitor conditions closely and be prepared.
The Flood Watch remains in effect until Friday, April 17 at 4:00 p.m., unless updated.
