Things went from bad to worse for the Attack in Game 2.
Kevin He scored twice and was one of nine Firebirds to finish with multiple points, as Flint routed the Owen Sound Attack 11-1 in Game 2 of their Ontario Hockey League Western Conference quarterfinal series Saturday night at Dort Financial Center.
Flint won both games on home ice to take a 2-0 lead in the best of seven. They outscored the Attack 19-2 in Games 1 and 2.
Darian Anderson, Chris Thibodeau, Jimmy Lombardi, Nathan Aspinall, Jacob Battaglia, Alex Kostov, Ryland Cunningham, Brady Smith and Xavier Tessier also scored for Flint.
Like Game 1, the Firebirds led 4-0 after the first period. It was 8-0 after two. And 11-0 into the final moments of the third, when Cole Zurawski potted a shutout spoiler with three seconds left for Owen Sound’s lone goal.
The Firebirds dominated. They scored four power play goals, two short-handed markers and managed their other five at even strength.
Mason Vaccari made 25 saves in the win, while Trenten Bennett stopped 11 taking the loss. Matthew Koprowski allowed five goals on 21 shots after entering the game in relief midway through the second period.
Flint outshot Owen Sound 38-26 while going 4 for 6 on the power play; the Attack finished 0 for 3, and allowed two short-handed goals against.
The series shifts back to Owen Sound for Games 3 and 4.
Game 3 goes Monday night at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre at 7 p.m.
