The Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority has issued a flood warning for Brockton.
A statement from the conservation authority says the warning is due to flooding along Silver Creek in Walkerton.
“Heavy thunderstorms moved through the watershed early this morning, bringing widespread rainfall of 30-45 mm. Silver Creek in Walkerton has overflowed its banks, and flooding has been observed upstream of Durham Street,” the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority says. “Additional rainfall of 10-15 mm forecast for today, March 11th, could cause further flooding in this area. Debris has also been observed at road crossings which could worsen conditions.”
Residents who live along Silver Creek are being advised to closely monitor conditions and “remain prepared for possible flooding.”
“Localized flooding has also been observed along the Saugeen River at Lobies Park. The public is reminded to exercise caution near all flooded areas and watercourses. Stream and river flows will remain strong and hazardous, and riverbanks are likely to be unstable,” Saugeen Valley Conservation says in a release.
Flood watches remain in place for the rest of the Saugeen Valley Conservation watershed, which covers Arran-Elderslie, Chatsworth, Grey Highlands, Hanover, Howick, Morris-Turnberry, South Bruce, Huron-Kinloss, Kincardine, Minto, Saugeen Shores, Southgate, West Grey and Wellington North.
A couple of roads in Bruce County are closed due to flooding as well. They are Bruce Road 1 from Bruce Road 20 to Paisley, and Bruce Road 12 from Belmore to Highway 9.
“Our operations crews are responding to areas with localized flooding affecting road conditions. We are working closely with OPP to address issues as they arise,” Bruce County says in a release.
