Brightshores Health System is adding four new beds to its intensive care unit in Owen Sound.
The expansion is funded by the province, and increases the department to 12 beds.
The ICU expansion will help ensure that patients and families across Grey and Bruce counties receive life-saving care close to home.
Between April 1, 2024 and March 31, 2025, the Owen Sound ICU department cared for 458 patients.
The average stay for a patient in the unit was 10 days.
It is staffed by teams of critical care physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists and other health care professionals, who work to deliver continuous monitoring and treatment.
The Intensive Care Unit provides specialized, round-the-clock care for patients with the most serious and most complex medical needs.
