Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating after a 48-year-old man died following a police-involved shooting Saturday near Paisley.
According to the Special Investigations Unit, the incident followed a day-long series of alleged crimes on February 21, 2026, including multiple motor vehicle thefts and residential break-and-enters across several jurisdictions. Investigators say a firearm was also reportedly stolen.
Police eventually located the man driving a stolen vehicle. After officers deployed a tire deflation device, the vehicle left the roadway and the man fled on foot.
He was later found near Sideroad 13 and Bruce-Saugeen Townline. During an interaction outside a residence, an officer discharged a firearm, striking the man.
Life-saving measures were attempted at the scene before he was transported to hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
The SIU has assigned four investigators and three forensic investigators to the case. A post-mortem examination is scheduled for Sunday.
Anyone with information, including photos or video, is asked to contact the SIU at 1-800-787-8529 or submit information online through the agency’s website.
