The City of Owen Sound is ushering in the holiday season today.
After the third annual Hockey Fest wraps up this afternoon, the River District will be launching the Holiday Magic event from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
It will include outdoor seating, fire tables, photos with Santa, contests, giveaways, specials, and sales at River District Businesses.
Then at 5 p.m., the 80th annual Kiwanis Santa Claus parade will hit the downtown before the Festival of Northern Lights flips the switch at 7 p.m.
Between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m., the Organized Ball Hockey Tournament will be held on 2nd Avenue East for youth up to U12.
To get ready for the festivities, the city will be closing off these roads at 3 p.m.:
-1st Avenue East from 8th Street East to 9th Street East
-2nd Avenue East fro 8th Street East to 11th Street East
-8th Street East fro 1st Avenue East to 3rd Avenue East
-9th Street East from 1st Avenue East to 3rd Avenue East
-2nd Avenue East from 7th Street East to 8th Street East will be open to local traffic only.
All vehicles must be removed from these roads by 2:30 p.m. to avoid being towed as well as from the parking lots behind City Hall and the Farmers’ Market.
10th Street will remain open except when the parade moves through the intersections.
Starting at 2 p.m., the Brooke and Core transit routes will detour around the closures on 8th Street East at 4th Avenue East, crossing the Sydenham River at 9th Street rather than 8th Street.
