The annual Owen Sound Kiwanis Santa Claus parade is taking this year’s event back to 1945.
Parade Chair and Owen Sound Kiwanis President Tim Brown says the upcoming parade on Nov. 15 is celebrating 80 years.
“We started the parade in 1945 and have been running the parade every single year since then, even in 2020 when Covid was on. We have had continuous parades every single year. This year, our theme for the parade is 1945 and what we are looking for is people to try and celebrate the music and the costumes and some of the ideas around 1945,” says Brown.
All the floats participating in this year’s parade have been asked to decorate as if it was 1945.
“Decorations are a lot more simple, more natural back then than what we use now,” says Brown.
This year’s parade will feature a number of new entries as the floats start at the Metro Grocery Store at 5 p.m. and end at the Farmers’ Market.
The parade will follow the annual three-day HockeyFest event in Owen Sound and will also be joined by the launch of the Festival of Northern Lights.
