Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Paul Vickers was at Meaford Curling Club on Friday as the club received a grant to help with replacing ice making equipment.
The Meaford Curling Club received a $200,000 capital grant this summer from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
The new ice making plant, which was built in Ontario, will enhance the curling experience while also supporting the club’s sustainability.
The previous equipment that was being used was original to the curling club’s construction in 1987, and failed last year.
Since that time, the club had been relying on a temporary unit that was housed in the parking lot.
Meaford Curling Club Chair Norm Glas says that what had started as a crisis has turned into a celebration, as the club is excited to welcome curlers back to high-quality ice in time for their 150th season.
