Bayshore Broadcasting’s new radio station is paying homage to blue collar workers by blowing its own Kennedy Whistle.
Starting this week, 89.3 the new CFOS FM, which was launched on Friday, will blow the whistle on air at noon and 5 p.m. Monday to Friday.
Bayshore Broadcasting General Manager Peter McKeown says, “Just like you hear in the community at large, you are going to now hear it on the radio and it really is a tribute to the working blue collar community that we broadcast from and live in.”
The Kennedy Whistle has a long history in Owen Sound, which was installed in the 1940s and used at the old Black Clawson-Kennedy factory, which manufactured parts for ships.
“The whistle was always a reminder that workers could go home obviously at lunch time at noon and then their shift was over at 5 p.m. at the end of the day. Every community has some sort of benchmark like this and we are proud to recognize a very rich cultural heritage and very much significant part of Owen Sound and Grey Bruce’s past. The whistle still blows every day, now it is blowing on CFOS,” says McKeown.
