More development is being proposed near the new Holiday Inn Express & Staybridge Suites in Port Elgin.
A Bruce County planning staff report to Saugeen Shores council says a developer is proposing to build on about six hectares of land in the area of Goderich Street (Highway 21), Waterloo Street and Devonshire Road.
It would include commercial blocks between the hotel and Highway 21 and more commercial space along Devonshire road across from the plaza with Food Basics.
There would also be three apartment buildings (195 units) along Devonshire Road.
A new road is also proposed that could be accessed from both Highway 21 (Goderich Street) and also Devonshire Road. It would be a right turn in /right turn out, entrance with no left turns allowed.
At some point in Port Elgin, the Town’s plan is to extend Waterloo Street and Bruce Street to Concession 10 in the north end of town.
The Bruce County report doesn’t require Saugeen Shores council to make a decision, it’s just for information.
