Owen Sound firefighters were called to a kitchen fire at an apartment in the city’s west end Thursday morning.
A fire department official says the call came in shortly after 8 a.m. after cooking oil caught fire on a stove top. Firefighters responded to 1195 6th Avenue West.
We’re told two occupants suffered burns to their arms and feet in an attempt to move the pot and extinguish the fire.
They were taken to hospital by Grey County paramedics for treatment.
In a release about the incident, the fire department says it is the second time to this month they’ve been called to the 6th Avenue West building during breakfast hours for a kitchen fire.
“When you are cooking stay in the kitchen. If a fire starts on the stove top do not move the pot. Use a lid or a portable fire extinguisher to extinguish the fire if it is safe to do so,” a statement from Owen Sound Fire Prevention Officer Greg Nicol says. “Moving the pot can result in personal injuries or fire spread throughout your home. Cooking with grease is always dangerous and should be avoided.”
