OPP are reminding you to adjust your driving habits, as kids head back to the classroom.
Constable Jamie Stanley says fines increased in 2018 for driving through a school crossing when the attending guard’s sign is up.
Doing so will mean a fine of $1,000, and the issuing of four demerit points upon conviction.
Stanley reminds drivers to reduce speeds in school zones, and to watch for crossing guards allowing kids to cross the road.
Highway drivers are reminded school buses will be out in force, and making frequent stops during the morning commute.
If a car passes a school bus with its stop lights flashing, Stanley says police can charge the car owner, if the driver is not identified.
That violation also comes with 6 demerit points, and a fine up to $2,000.
Parents are also encouraged to speak with children about the importance of being safe going to and from school.
